Cold snap to persist until weekend, zero inland (Updated)

A cold front is still affecting the island and will continue right through to March 25 public holiday, according to the latest Met Office report, with a low pressure system expected tomorrow.

Heavy snowfalls on Troodos continue, with moderate to strong winds across the country, force four to five over slight seas.

Temperatures will rise to 13 degrees Celsius inland during the day, with 15 on the coasts and two on the mountains.

It will fall to zero inland this evening with 3C on the coastal areas and minus 4 over the mountains, where frost will form.

Storms and snowfalls will continue tomorrow, with 13 degrees inland, the southern and eastern coastal regions, 14 in the west and north and one over the mountains.

Similar weather patterns will continue through to Friday, with temperatures well below the seasonal average.

A number of mountain roads are open only to four-wheel cars and those equipped with snow chains, police said on Twitter around midday on Monday.

They said the restrictions apply to Platres-Troodos, Prodromos-Troodos and Karvounas-Troodos roads.

The depth of snow on Troodos square was more than half a metre early this afternoon, but is expected to rise much further.
