March’s unseasonable deep freeze broke a slew of records, as low average daily temperatures topped the charts across the island, the met office said on Monday.

The office said many stations recorded the lowest ever averages for March, most notably at Limassol port which notched 6C – the lowest since the station there began recording in 1976.

The Larnaca airport station reported a similar record low at 5.3C, the lowest for March since 1977 when it began logging weather reports.

Athalassa in Nicosia recorded a daily minimum average of 3.9C, the lowest since records there began in 1983.

Indeed, March saw rare snowfall blanket the Pentadaktylos mountain range and treated Nicosians to a fluffy morning snow show.
