Coronavirus: Four deaths, 4,210 new cases

Four coronavirus deaths were reported on Monday as another 4,210 infections were traced from 105,150 tests, a positivity rate of four per cent, the health ministry announced.

The deaths concerned three men, aged 68, 77 and 89, who died on Sunday and an 88-year-old woman who died on Monday. So far, 946 people died from the virus since the pandemic outbreak.

There are 199 patients with coronavirus in state hospitals, of whom 28 were in serious condition, including seven who are intubated.

The ministry added that 52.77 per cent of hospitalised patients were unvaccinated.

Another 13 patients remain intubated in ICUs due to coronavirus, the ministry added, after they stopped being infectious.

Most new cases were detected through a rapid test, as 100,953 rapid antigen tests were carried out on Monday, and just 4,197 PCR tests.

More than half, 2,692, were detected during 49,629 rapid tests caried out privately, while 1,186 people tested positive during 51,324 free rapid tests offered by the health ministry programmes.

During contact tracing, another 610 positives were found from a combination of PCR and rapid tests, while 211 cases were detected after 1,323 PCR tests carried out privately.

Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot authorities announced 563 new coronavirus cases from 26,482 tests.
