90-year-old man dies in traffic accident

fatal

A 90-year-old man died on Tuesday after his moped crashed with a car near Dhekelia, police said.

Initial reports say that the victim, Christos Yiangou from Xylophagou, crashed head on into a car driven by a 48-year-old while driving his moped on the Ayia Napa-Dhekelia motorway at around 3pm.

The man was killed instantly when he was flung off the moped and into the road.

He was taken by ambulance to Larnaca hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

SBA police believe Yiangou was riding against the traffic on the motorway, and will continue investigating.
