British bases police on Thursday appealed for information regarding a road fatality that occurred on the Larnaca-Ayia Napa motorway a little before 3.00 pm on Tuesday.

Christos Yiangou, aged 89, was killed when the moped he was riding was involved in a head-on collision with a car driven by a 47-year-old man. The pensioner is understood to have been going against the flow of traffic.

In their announcement, police of the British bases at Dhekelia said they were investigating the road fatality, near the Xylophagou industrial zone exit.

Anyone with any information about the accident is urged to contact SBA police on telephone 24747900 or contact the citizen’s helpline on 1443.

Yiangou was killed instantly when he was flung off the moped, onto the road. He was taken by ambulance to Larnaca hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
