Cyprus-US relations have reached a historic high

Cyprus-US relations have reached their highest point since the founding of the Republic, said President Anastasiades in a meeting with the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (Ahepa).

The president and Ahepa discussed developments regarding the Cyprus issue, his proposals for confidence building measures and the need for resolving the issue through international law, the Security Council’s resolutions, and EU’s acquis. The president also referred to Turkey’s illegal activities within Cyprus’ EEZ and in occupied Famagusta.

Developments in Ukraine in reference to Cyprus’ position, grounded in international law, was also discussed.

The president further informed the group about developments on energy matters and on Cyprus-US bilateral relations that are at their highest since the founding of the Republic of Cyprus.

Anastasiades also stressed the importance of the trilateral cooperation’s between Cyprus and Greece with neighbouring states that aim at achieving peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Anastasiades praised Ahepa and its president for their role in further deepening Cyprus-US strategic relations and expressed his gratitude, especially for promoting our national interests to  centres of power abroad.

In attendance were undersecretary to the president Kyriacos Koushos, presidential commissioner Fotis Fotiou and other officials.
