Fatal road accident in Limassol, seven-year-old child injured

A 43-year-old from Russia was killed in a fatal traffic accident on Sunday afternoon in Limassol.

Dmitrii Polishchuk from Russia, a permanent resident of Cyprus, succumbed to his injuries shortly after the accident.

A seven-year-old child of Greek nationality who was injured in the same accident, is fighting to stay alive. The two were riding a large three-wheeled motorcycle.

According to police statement, the accident happened shortly after four in the afternoon on Ambelakion Street in the tourist area of Germasoyia, while the 43-year-old Russian was riding his motorcycle with the seven-year-old child as passenger.

In circumstances under investigation, the man lost control and crashed violently into the wall of a house wall.

Both the 43-year-old man and the child were critically injured and transported by ambulance to Limassol hospital.

Shortly afterwards, the Russian succumbed to his injuries. The seven-year-old, who is the child of a neighbour of the deceased, was transported by ambulance to Makarios hospital where he is fighting to stay alive.

The two passengers were not wearing helmets and when the motorcycle overturned both fell on the asphalt, resulting in serious injury and the subsequent death of the 43-year-old, a police spokesperson said.

The motorcycle in question is a three-wheeler, registered in the Republic and permitted to circulate under certain conditions and with a special category license.
