Long prison terms for meth lab men

Limassol court

Hefty jail sentences of seven and nine years were handed down to a 31-year-old and 32-year-old respectively for their key role in a meth lab and a subsequent attack on an evidence-holding room at the Limassol court.

The case stems back to the initial bust of the Limassol meth lab in June 2020 along with further developments after those allegedly involved also set fire to an evidence room.

The 32-year-old was found guilty on Wednesday of producing half a kilo of methamphetamine while the 31-year-old was sentenced for producing 15 grammes, but also for his involvement in ordering the attack on the evidence room. The court heard that the orders were given while he was being held in police custody at the prison.

On Monday, one of the suspects accused of setting fire to the evidence room was sentenced to seven years in prison. Last month, a 33-year-old pleaded guilty alongside a second suspect, saying he was the lookout during the incident, which took place on July 21, 2021.

Announcing the sentence at the time, the court emphasised that this was an unprecedented case in the history of the republic and stands out from other cases.

“The offenders went so far as to set fire to the area where justice is served, namely the area where evidence is stored, in order to destroy evidence of a specific, ongoing case.”
