Rose festival returns to Agros

agros rose festival 3

Adored by travellers and locals alike, Agros village has plenty to offer visitors on any given day. Agrotourism stays, cafés serving homemade sweets and jams and picturesque spots pull in the crowds. Its best-known attraction, however, is its cultivation of fragrant, pink roses and this month is their time to shine. Over the weekends of May 14-15 and 21-22, the 14th edition of the Agros Rose Festival is taking place celebrating the blossoming life of roses.

Rose picking, distillation, live folklore dances and music will take over the village as the community honours its famous flowers. Eager early-risers can join the locals in picking roses as early as 5.30am or 6am collecting flowers before the morning mist. Quiet mornings, fresh mountain air and a strong rosy fragrance will reward those attending.

Several dance ensembles will perform traditional dances as musicians take the stage. The festival’s big concert will take place on May 21 at 8.30pm at the Glafkos Clerides Sports Centre with four musicians taking the stage. All throughout the festival experience (programme here), food stalls will decorate the village centre serving local treats and selling some of Agros’ finest produce. A train ride will transport festival visitors from spot to spot around the village to easily explore the entertaining and aromatic corners of the Agros Rose Festival.
