Three received jail sentence for illegal employment

A woman was jailed for three months suspended for three years for illegally employing two men in Limassol, police said on Wednesday.

The 70-year-old woman was also fined €800.

The woman’s illegal employees, two men, both third-country nationals aged 40 and 25, were also charged with 30 days in jail.

However, the Limassol court ordered that the prison terms be suspended for a period of three years.

The two men were spotted working illegally in a restaurant in Limassol on June 14 by members of the immigration service, who reported them to the police.

According to the police statement, the two men’s temporary residence permits expired in May and June 2021. They now face deportation to their countries of origin.
