Airports to be utilised to showcase island’s culture

The airports of Larnaca and Paphos are to be used a venues to highlight the island’s rich cultural heritage and tradition, Deputy Minister of Culture, Yiannis Toumazis announced following a meeting with Eleni Kalogirou, CEO of Hermes Airports.

Toumazis held up as a model Athens International Airport, which cooperates annually with Greek and international organisations to stage a series of activities. Since the beginning of its operation in 2001, Eleftherios Venizelos airport has promoted more than eighty permanent and temporary cultural events and exhibitions on its premises.

“The relationship of airports with art and culture in recent years has seen an impressive growth as countries use their airports to showcase their history and culture to thousands of visitors,” a statement following the meeting said.
