Drivers caught five times over limit

File photo

Two drunk drivers are to appear in court after being caught five times over the limit, in two separate incidents on Thursday night and early Friday morning.

The first is a 38-year-old who was checked during a routine traffic stop along the Nicosia-Akaki road, with a preliminary test indicating drunkenness. The final check returned a reading of 116μg – well over the 22μg limit.

The driver was arrested and is due to appear in court on Friday.

Just a few hours later, a 43-year-old in Famagusta was also found to be almost five times over the limit – having tested at 108μg.

He was charged in writing and is also to appear in court.
