Police in Paphos arrested a 23-year-old for damaging the door of the welfare office and causing a fracas, authorities said on Tuesday.

The individual from Nigeria went to the welfare office on Monday to receive a cheque, but upon explaining the process of receiving the money by an official at the office, the suspect grew angry and began to shout and kick.

An official from the welfare office told police that the 23-year-old kicked the door in anger and caused approximately €100 damage to it.

The 23-year-old was arrested at around 6pm on Monday, after police received an arrest warrant.

The individual is currently in police custody.
