Police arrest 39-year-old for drink driving in Peyia

Police in Peyia have arrested a 39-year-old for drink driving, after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a fast-food shop hitting and injuring a 36-year-old, police said on Thursday.

At 4:45pm on Wednesday the 39-year-old Paphos resident lost control of his vehicle on Michalakis Kyprianou Avenue in Peyia, hit a cement wall, and then crashed into the fast-food store owned by the 36-year-old, who was hit and injured.

The 36-year-old was taken to Paphos General, where doctors determined he had multiple injuries.

He was kept in hospital for further care, and doctors said his conditions is serious but not life-threatening.

During investigations at the scene of the crash, police gave the 39-year-old driver an alcotest that registered 92μg instead of the permitted 22μg.

The man was arrested after police received a court order.

Police are continuing their investigations.
