Children can be registered for pre-primary school next week

Registration for pre-primary and primary public schools will be held from January 16 to 18, Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said on Tuesday.

The registration will be open to all parents with children four years and eight months old, as has been done in previous years, as a bill changing the age at which pre-primary education starts is still being reviewed by the supreme court over issues regarding the private sector.

The new law would mean compulsory preschool will start for children aged four years. This change is due to be implemented over the coming three school years.

The law stipulates that during the 2023-2026 school years, parents have the option to enrol their child in public, community or private pre-schools and from 2026-2027 only in public preschools.

However, due to the issues, registration will be conducted the same as in previous years.

In an announcement, the education ministry said that no late applications will be accepted, and that if an application must be filed after the 18, then the parents/guardians need to refer to the district educational offices.

Parents will be able to download all the necessary forms at http://www.moec.gov.cy/dde/entipa.html.

Schools will also have copies of all the forms, if parents/guardians do not have access to the internet.
