Protestors are set to demonstrate outside the Limassol zoo on Saturday, calling for it to be shut down.

The protest will begin at 12pm and is prompted by a series of scandals related to animal deaths at the facility.

“We want an end to this unacceptable slavery, imprisonment of innocent animals,” the animal party said. It will be attending the protest along with activists and volunteers.

It called on the mayor to “put an end to this barbarity and animal abuse.”

The latest animal death was that of a deer, after its antlers were caught in a metal mesh that was around the tree, which should not have been there, according to the animal party. This resulted to the animal’s “slow and agonising death” which shows the “unacceptable negligence and irresponsibility of people in charge,” the party added.

“It’s time for people to understand that animals are not for people’s entertainment, nor be imprisoned in grim sages with endless despair.”

The first protest took place in December, where demonstrators said they will continue until the zoo is closed down.
