Turkish Cypriot boy ‘critical’ in Nicosia general

A 17-year-old Turkish Cypriot boy, who was hit by a bus in the north a few days ago, is in a critical but stable condition, Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela said on Monday, about the youth, who had been transferred to Nicosia general hospital from the north for treatment.

The boy, who was attempting to cross the road in Famagusta at around 4am on Sunday, was hit by a bus. He was taken first to Famagusta hospital in north, then to Nicosia Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital in the north.

According to reports on Saturday, the authorities in the north contacted Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou and arranged for the boy to be transferred to Nicosia general in the state-controlled areas for treatment.

The 17-year-old underwent surgery on Sunday for the removal of his spleen and continues to be treated in the intensive care unit.
