Over a thousand farmers will receive compensation amounting to nearly €3 million, following a cabinet decision on Wednesday.

The council of ministers approved a proposal tabled by the agriculture ministry, referring to damages caused by adverse weather conditions during the 2021-2022 growing period.

According to Agriculture Minister Petros Xenophontos, this covers deciduous crops, seasonal and other tree crops, as well as in fixed capital, as a large number of farmers was affected.

For this reason it was considered appropriate and necessary to pay aid through the revised national framework, he said, adding that payments to all beneficiaries should be expected within the current month.

In the meantime, with a view to the immediate relief of the affected farmers, the agriculture ministry has begun recording damages caused by the adverse weather conditions that prevailed in recent weeks, which affected crops in various areas, he added.
