The transport ministry on Thursday said 52 heavy vehicles were written up for violating industry standards.

A total of 778 checks were carried out a day earlier as part of an island-wide campaign to ensure safety in the operations behind heavy vehicles on Cypriot roads.

Typically, the buses and trucks in violation of ministry standards were written up for either the dangerous stacking of cargo or the lack of a tachograph, which is necessary for properly operating big vehicles.

The ministry plans to continue its vehicle control campaign through the road transport department in hopes of reducing—if not eliminating—illegality and danger on Cypriot roads.
