A minute with

A minute with Chloe Melidou Choreographer-dancer and theatrologist

Where do you live?
I live with my cat in an apartment in Limassol

Best childhood memory?
There are many: summer evening stroll with my grandmother on the old pier in Limassol and the water fights with friends in the courtyard. My brother’s birth. Family holidays in Greece with my grandfather and grandmother. The first time I walked into ballet class. The tales my mom read before I went to sleep. My father at the beach who kept me on his shoulders to get to the deep water faster.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish?
I do not go out often for lunch, but I prefer the simple traditional tavernas. I have no particular preference in food; I love both a pasta dish with seafood and traditional souvlaki pita.

What did you have for breakfast?
Yoghurt, toast, banana.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
Both. I work a lot throughout the day until the evening, so in order to have time for myself and my friends I have to stay up late. The perfect day is when I am productive in my work. The perfect night is when I have time to spend on my porch with friends or family.

Best book ever read?
The Poet’s Enemy by George Winter, Figaro’s solo by John Skarimbas. Excellent writing, surreal short stories written in simple words!

Best holiday ever taken? What’s your dream trip?
For my holidays I prefer the Greek islands, especially in the Aegean Sea. My best vacation was a long journey to the Peloponnese when I was 12, and three years ago in Mytilene and Chios. Apart from its beautiful landscapes, unique beaches and good company, it was a constructive holiday with performances, concerts, museums, monuments etc.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
23 Red Lights’ Winter Swimmers

What is always in your fridge?
Yogurt, olives, cheese, water, white wine

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
I do not have a dream house… all I want is to be in the city, watching the beach, to have a space for my cat and have plants on the balcony.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
If I could go out one night with friends and relatives who have died, to see them for one more time.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
I would call all my loved ones to my house to spend our last moments together.

What is your greatest fear?
Sometimes fears are professional other times emotional. Phobias: Heights, worms and the highway.
