Cyprus dominate King of Kings

Seven out of nine fights were won by Cypriot fighters

Through their performance at the first ever King Of Kings event staged in Nicosia’s Pavilion Hall, Cypriot fighters proved once again that the level of martial arts on the island is on the rise.

In a packed arena, twenty fighters from Cyprus, Poland, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands and Turkey offered high level fights, with the fans enjoying a strong show presented by the hosts.

As expected, all eyes were on the beautiful ring girls, in an event that lasted for almost four hours.

Main sponsors of the King Of Kings Fight were Top Kinisis, Prestige Group, Trick Tab and ΟΝΥΧ.

Seven Cypriot athletes came out as winners in their fights. Kyriakos Alepides (65kg), Alexandros Philippides (67kg), Pata Chapelia (71kg), George Ketcherov (65kg), George Kostanides (71kg), Stephan Almazov (77kg) and Kostas Zenonos (81kg) triumphed in their weight categories.

On the contrary, Sotiris Christodoulou (67kg) and Sergio Ugrinov (+93kg) lost their fights. Savvas Michael competed in an exhibition match.

Philippides, Alepides, Almazov and Chapelia originate from Alex Fight Club while Zenonos, Ugrinov and Michael from Lumpinee Gym.
Kostanides represented Paphos’ Thai Boxing Academy, Ketcherov the SIAM Liasis Team and Christodoulou the Muai Thay Ninos Gym.

“We at the Federation are very happy that King Of Kings chose Cyprus as an event host, since they are one of the biggest organisers of fight matches around Europe”, said Sakis Siakopoulos, president of the Cyprus Muay Thai Federation, who also added: “I was aware that the level of our athletes is high, despite coming from a small country. I was sure we would perform well. Without wanting to underestimate the competition, which is of high level, I believe that if we receive the chance to compete abroad, we will bring in great results”.

Siakopoulos also thanked the president of the International Bushido Federation, Donatas Simunaitis, for his effort in bringing the King Of Kings to Cyprus.

“I’m confident we will cooperate again in the future”, said Siakopoulos.

The King Of Kings is a spectacular sport, with a growing reputation. It is aired through Eurosport and packs arenas around the world.

After a successful appearance in Cyprus, the people behind the event in Nicosia are certain that King Of Kings will visit the island again, soon.
