Free legal advice to asylum seekers

Τhe Humanitarian Affairs Unit of the organisation Future Worlds Center (FWC), which has been offering free legal and social support to asylum seekers and persons under international protection since 2006, has expanded its services, it said on Monday.

With the aid of EU funding FWC said two lawyers, with proficient knowledge and training, would offer on a daily basis, free legal advice and representation to asylum seekers covering the entire asylum procedure including representation before the Asylum Service and Refugee Reviewing Authority up until the end of June this year.

The services will be offered alongside the organisation’s existing project which provides free legal and social services to asylum seekers and refugees, funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for the Refugees (UNHCR) since 2006.

“Through our experience on issues of asylum, this action will contribute to the provision of a fair and effective examination of asylum claims as required by the relative EU Directives,” FWC said in a statement on Monday.

Services have been available from the beginning of February in Nicosia and Limassol.

The special programme will run until June 30, 2015.
