Making breastfeeding work

Women in five different cities across Cyprus breastfed their babies at the same time on Saturday as part of the annual breastfeeding event.

Starting at 11am in Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca, Nicosia and Paralimni women gathered around and fed their babies for one minute.

Organised by the Cyprus association of breastfeeding, this year’s theme was ‘breastfeeding and work: let’s make it work’.

Their efforts are a bid to encourage women to breastfeed and adhere to World Health Organisation recommendations that outline women should breastfeed exclusively for six months, and for at least two years with supplementary foods.

After the initial registration and once their minute of feeding was over, participants had time to enjoy several fun family activities that let some children walk away with gifts.

The event is sponsored by the European economic area (EEA) and was organised at the Philoxenia conference centre in Nicosia, at Pizza Mia in Limassol, at the Mediterranean high school in Larnaca, at the Evangelismos hospital in Paphos and the Paralimni town hall.
