Weekend blood donation in Paphos

Blood donation in memory of Nikolas Nikola who died just over a month ago

A BLOOD donation event will be held in Paphos on Sunday in memory of a local resident who passed away last month.

Soti Demetriou told the Cyprus Mail that the blood donation would be held at Killi village community board, to mark her father’s forty day memorial.

“We wanted to do something for my father in his memory and he would’ve appreciated this,” she said.

Nikolas Nikola was 54 when he died of cancer. His daughter said he was doing well until he became unwell again at the end of September 2015.

“He had to be given a blood transfusion when needed and my mother is a nurse at Paphos general hospital, so we are very aware of the need for people to give blood. This is a way to remember my father and to help people and the hospital. We think that is very important.”

Nicola was a regular blood donor until ill health prevented him from giving blood, said Demetriou.

She explained that nurses from Paphos general hospital will be on hand to take blood on Sunday and will first test people to see if they are suitable.

“This is done by taking a small drop of blood to test and they will also check the necessary criteria, such as general health and age.”
