MPs should consult Holy Synod on issue of abortion

Even though about 98 per cent of those living in the Republic adhere to the Autocephalous Greek Orthodox  Church, our MPs find it unnecessary to ask our Holy Synod for their opinion before deciding on an issue – abortion – which is an abomination of God’s laws to practice without valid medical reasons. In the same vein, MPs have recently made legal the union of same sex partnerships. It would be appalling if an abortion is classified as a right, so that women who are born to give life can become the takers of life after casual or unprotected sex.

To the House Legal Affairs committee please note that the options open to you for a bill allowing abortions should be only if the woman has life threatening condition requiring an abortion.
