Missing Lithuanian woman found back at Larnaca airport (Update 2)

A Lithuanian national who disappeared without a trace after arriving at Larnaca airport on Monday morning, sparking a search by authorities, was found back at the airport on Tuesday and may return home in a week.

After her arrival on Monday, the 40-year-old woman was on her way to Latchi, where she was to be employed in a hotel. At around 10.30pm on Monday the hotel owner, a 50-year-old resident of Cyprus, reported to police that she hadn’t arrived and was not responding to phone calls.

The hotel owner also reported that a bus driver at the airport had told him that by 10am on Monday the 40-year-old had arrived and that the driver had explained to her how to get to Latchi by bus.

Investigations on Tuesday morning revealed that her mobile phone was working and was traced to the area of Larnaca airport. Police went back to the airport where they found the woman.

She told them she had taken the wrong bus on Monday and instead of going to Latchi ended up in Larnaca town. She then took a taxi and returned to the airport where she had stayed the night.

According to police, her employer no longer wants to give her a job and as such, she will stay in Cyprus for a few more days to look for employment.

If she doesn’t manage to find work, she will head back to Lithuania next week.

Police helped her find a hotel in Larnaca where she will be able to stay for the next few days.
