Police arrest man for assault and battery

A 23-year-old Nicosia man was remanded in custody for six days on Tuesday after a man was beaten and locked in the boot of a car.

Police said the suspect was arrested on Thursday as part of an investigation relating to assault, causing actual bodily harm, and abduction.

The case was reported to police last week. A 25-year-old man from Nicosia was rushed to hospital in the early morning hours of Thursday with injuries to various parts of his body.

He told police that on the previous day he had visited a machine shop in the morning to settle financial differences with the owner. During the visit, the man was allegedly assaulted by two individuals who beat him and then locked him in the boot of an immobilised vehicle.

After many hours, he managed to get out of the boot and seek help at an adjacent workshop.

Following his complaint, police arrested the suspect on Monday.

The 25-year-old was still being treated in hospital for multiple lacerations and bruising to various parts of his body.
