Coronavirus: Turkish Cypriots ramp up testing

Another 25 Covid positive cases were detected in the north since Saturday when 32 were announced as Turkish Cypriot authorities ramp up testing with free PCR tests on offer in the north of Nicosia and in Kyrenia

Turkish Cypriot ‘health minister’ Ali Pilli said the results of their latest lockdown would be visible in around two weeks time and that they expected a drop of around 3-5 cases per day.

The number of cases in then north is 2,287. A total of 410 people are being monitored or treated, of whom 102 are in hospital and 297 in quarantine hotels. Around 10 people are in the ICU.

Regarding the vaccination programme Pilli said the goal was to have 20 centres up and running and to complete the vaccinations by the end of March.

So far the Turkish Cypriots have received 40,000 doses from Turkey and 2,500 from the EU.
