Coronavirus: One death, 139 new cases (Updated)

One death and 139 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Wednesday.

The health ministry said 126 people were in hospital. Thirty-nine are in serious condition with 23 intubated.

The death was of 79-year-old woman with underlying conditions. This brings the number of deaths from Covid-19 to 203; 136 men and 67 women with average age of 79 years.

The latest cases were detected among 28,659 tests: 1,716 PCR tests and 26,943 rapid tests. The positivity rate is now at 0.49 percent.

Of the rapid tests, 43 cases are people found positive during contact tracing, 18 were people who got tested privately and 11 are samples processed in labs of state hospitals.

Two more cases were samples taken from referrals by GPs and checks among special groups.

Another 65 positive cases were found among rapid tests. These concern one health professional, one member of the National Guard and one case among nursing homes.

In the Limassol district, 27 positive cases were detected, a positivity rate of 0.36 per cent, eight cases in Larnaca (0.21 per cent), 19 cases in Nicosia (0.20 per cent), two in Paphos (0.08per cent) and six cases in the Famagusta district (0.52 per cent).

The total number of cases is now 31,263.
