Coronavirus: 8 fined over engagement party, 13,842 checks

Paphos police on Monday fined eight people €300 each for gathering to celebrate an engagement at a house.

According to police, the fines were issued not only for the illegal gathering but also for violations of the overnight curfew.

In Paphos, 1,147 inspections were conducted from Monday until Tuesday morning and 30 individuals were booked, seven of them for not keeping to the curfew and 15 for moving around without permission.

During 24 hours, a total of 176 persons were booked for breaching decrees nationwide while 13,842 checks were carried out.

Most were fined for not wearing masks and failing to send an SMS asking for permission to leave home.

Apart from the 1,147 inspections in Paphos, police also conducted 3,051 checks in Nicosia, 4,190 in Limassol, 1,599 in Larnaca, 1,659 in Famagusta and 1,070 in Morphou.

57 individuals were fined in Limassol, 50 in Nicosia, 23 in Larnaca and 11 in Famagusta as a result.
