Coronavirus: One death, 336 new cases (updated)

One person died from coronavirus on Sunday as the ministry of health announced 336 new cases.

The new cases were among 47,306, meaning a positivity rate of 0.71 per cent was recorded.

The new cases bring the total on the island so far to 42,218.

Of the total tests, 1,554 were PCR and 45,752 rapid tests.

A total of 87 cases were found from 645 close contacts, while 39 were found from 505 tests taken under private initiative.

One positive was found among 231 samples at state hospitals while the remaining 209 came from 45,640 rapid tests carried out as part of the ministry of health’s screening programme.

No cases were found among 112 rapid tests taken at private labs of from 173 taken on doctors’ orders.

Among the rapid tests 19,237 were taken in Nicosia where 49 cases were found, a positivity rate of 0.25 per cent. In Limassol 13,044 tests were taken, which found 115 cases (0.88 per cent). In Larnaca 19 cases were found among 7,201 tests (0.26 per cent). Four thousand tests were taken in Paphos where 18 cases were found (0.45 per cent) while in Famagusta six cases were found among 2,154. Meanwhile four tests in the National Guard turned up two positives.

Meanwhile there are 212 people in hospital, 45 of whom are in a serious condition.

Of the 45 in critical condition, 19 are intubated, three are also in the ICU while 23 are being treated in a high dependency unit.

The death brings to 243 the number of people who have died of Covid-19 in Cyprus so far.

The latest death was a 95-year-old woman with underlying health conditions who was being treated at Limassol general hospital. Of the total deaths, 161 were men and 82 women.
