The teen keeping Mexican dancing traditions alive on TikTok

Hey kids, in this video we meet Matisse Rainbolt, a 19-year-old folklórico dancer with a big TikTok fan following.

Ballet folklórico is a traditional Mexican style dance with its own genres of music and fashion that varies based on region.

Rainbolt grew up in Southern California, but her family is from Chihuahua, Mexico. She started taking dance classes when she was only four years old and looked up to her great-grandmother, who also loved dancing.

The teen added that, in many generations of Mexican immigrants, families have felt “stripped of their culture”, which is why performing folklórico for her 871,000 TikTok followers is so important… to both her and her great-grandmother.
