Hammers and tones: keeping a centuries-old UK piano-making tradition alive

“A piano that’s made slowly will be a better piano than a piano that’s made fast…”

Over a century ago, Britain’s piano manufacturers used to be industrial giants, churning out thousands of instruments every year. But now only one factory remains, and the work is slow, arduous and painstaking.

In this video, we meet Adam Cox, who runs Cavendish Pianos in Yorkshire, and learn how he is fighting to keep this traditional art from disappearing completely, as well as his hopes for a new generation of piano artisans.
