Nicosia police arrested a 25-year-old man late on Monday on suspicion of stealing construction tools.

The man was arrested after patrol officers spotted him running a red light around 11pm.

With a police vehicle in pursuit, the suspect stopped his car and attempted to flee on foot.

A generator and an electric construction tool were found in his car for which the man failed to provide sufficient explanations for.

Police arrested the man and are investigating whether the items were stolen from a construction company on May 20.

The owner of the company reported someone had broken into his establishment and stole two generators, one electric construction tool and a bag with tools.

The 25-year-old is suspected of burglary, theft, causing damage and illegal possession of property.
