Coronavirus: four deaths, 238 people test positive on Friday (Updated)

The health ministry announced four deaths and 238 cases of Covid-19 on Friday.

The deceased are all men, three of whom died on Thursday and one on Friday.

An 85-year-old man passed away on Thursday at Famagusta general hospital, while a second, aged 43, died at Nicosia general hospital after being treated in the ICU.

The third was 73 years old, and died at Limassol general hospital also on Thursday.

Lastly, another 85-year-old man passed away at Larnaca general hospital on Friday.

The death toll now stands at 512, of whom 331 were men and 181 women.

There are 133 people being treated for coronavirus in hospitals, 44 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 44 patients, 16 are intubated, six are in ICU without a ventilator and 22 in the High Dependency Unit.

A total of 59,969 PCR and rapid antigen tests were carried out today, with a positivity rate of 0.40 per cent.

The total number of positives to date is 116,326.

Of the 59,969 tests, 6,350 were PCR and 53,619 rapid tests.

The majority, 121 of the 238 cases came from 40,833 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 40 more detected at health ministry testing sites.

Fifty eight cases came from 2,979 samples taken through private initiative, while 11 positive came from 231 samples processed by hospital labs.

In addition, 3,135 samples were taken at airports with eight positives.

The total number of cases detected so far is 116,326.
