Driver faces manslaughter charges for road fatality

A 22-year-old man will face manslaughter charges in connection with the death of his 18-year-old partner in a car crash in Limassol last year.

The man was referred to trial before the Limassol criminal court after it had been determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances.

The trial will start in November. The man is currently doing prison time in connection with burglary and theft.

Mother of two Katerina Charalambous was killed in September 2020 after the car driven by the suspect overturned repeatedly before ending up on the outside wall of a house on the Kandou to Kyvides road.

The 18-year-old was flung out of the vehicle and was found dead a few metres away. The defendant was seriously injured.

Police said at the time that the man was speeding and neither he nor Charalambous were wearing their seatbelt.

This is the third road death-related case that will be tried by a criminal court.
