Police on Monday arrested three people in relation to the discovery of 13.5 kilograms of cannabis in packages that arrived at Larnaca airport.

The suspects are three men, one 23 years old and the others both 22.

In a statement, police said that members of the drug squad (Ykan) and customs officers identified two parcels that arrived from abroad, which were found to contain 13.5 kilograms of cannabis.

On Monday morning they arrested the 23-year-old man who received the parcels along with a 22-year-old man that was with him.

Later, around 6.25 in the afternoon, they arrested a third suspect, a 22-year-old man.

He had been stopped and searched by Ykan officers after attempting to run away with the drugs.

While trying to escape, he collided with a patrol car and was subsequently stopped.

After searching his car, officers found a large quantity of cananabis and a large sum of money in his possession.

The three suspects are expected to appear on Tuesday before the Larnaca district court where they are expected to be remanded.
