Children’s workshops at Majestic State Gallery

Museums are opening their doors for a series of summer activities and several fun events are planned for children as well. This July, the Majestic State Gallery of Contemporary Art in Nicosia has two interactive events that invite young visitors to explore not only the gallery but also their imagination and creativity.

On Friday and Saturday, actress Natalia Panagiotou and dancer Maria Kasapi are hosting a creative movement and theatrical play workshop for children aged six to twelve. The educational activity ‘Want to go on a journey?’ is a fun ride through the Gallery combining theatre and creative movement. Guided by imagination and collaboration, the children are invited to take inspiration from the works in the exhibition, discover images, sounds, textures, tastes and scents and take a journey through the magical world of the senses. On Friday, the workshop will take place at 4pm whereas on Saturday it will begin at 11am.

Towards the end of the month, one more interactive event will take place, addressed to children aged five to ten but also adults. In Imaginary Figures and Prints, young and old will have the opportunity, through a game of exploration on the three floors of the gallery to converse and interact with the works of Cypriot artists and discover various ways and techniques through which, the human body is represented. At the same time, the participants will experiment with the collagraphy technique and print their own imaginary figures on large surfaces. The composition of figures will consist of copies of parts of the artworks that will be discovered during the course of this exploration.

The programme is designed and facilitated by museum educator Elena Panagiotou and artist Kyriakos Theocharous, coming to life on Saturday 23 and Saturday 30 July.
