Flamenco fusion

A legendary evening of flamenco fusion is arriving soon as Umana productions present a concert by the Grammy and Emmy award-winning Argentine guitarist Hernan Romero. On July 28, Romero will take to the Kyklos Music Stage along with local musicians for a Hispanic-inspired evening.

Also performing on the night is Cyprus-based Chilean bass and cajon player Rodrigo Cáceres, local band Rumba Attack, and Atys and her band featuring ILaRios (Larkos Larkou). The musicians will play first separately and then fuse their music for a Gypsy, Latin and Flamenco set.

“We are thrilled about this show,” said Andrea of Umana and continued to explain how exciting it is to host a musician like Romero. “Romero’s mother, Grammy award winner Estela Raval, contributed to his talent by surrounding young Romero with the best of musical environments. He worked with some of the world’s finest guitarists, including Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin. Romero produced and played on many of Al Di Meola albums that created a fertile association with him until today. Romero won his Grammy in 2012 for Best Surround recording for his album Un secundo una Vida, and his Emmy in 2021 for his music in the PBS TV series A taste of History.”

Atys is a Famagusta-born singer from a Turkish Cypriot family who sings in various languages, specialising in gypsy and tango songs and rhythms. After living in the South of France for many years, she returned to Cyprus and married the composer and performer Larkos Larkou with whom she performs. July 28 will see musicians from all walks of life come together for a unique musical meeting.
