Magnitude 4.0 quake shakes the island

An earthquake hit the island late on Tuesday centred in the sea area of Paphos, the geological survey department of the agriculture ministry said on Wednesday.

The quake of 4.0 magnitude was recorded around 11.42pm 45 kilometres west of Polis Chrysochous at a depth of 27 kilometres.

It was felt mainly in the Paphos district but also in Limassol and Nicosia.

No damage was recorded so far.

The geological survey department is monitoring the phenomenon.
