New exhibitions in September

2 (3)

Art exhibitions are back. Come September and the island’s galleries and museums return to hosting the work of local artists. Several artistic showcases are taking place throughout Cyprus, presenting numerous art genres, techniques and themes.

On Friday, Exhibit8 Gallery will host a group exhibition that deals with the topic of immigration. Titled Boundaries, it brings together artists from varied cultural backgrounds and creative disciplines to show the diverse aspect of immigration influence. Until September 16, when the Limassol exhibition will conclude, a series of art talks and workshops will take place at the gallery to expand the theme further.

On the same weekend, Palia Ilektriki Cultural Centre in Paphos will open the retrospective exhibition of visual artist Mary Plant. Her showcase Mythographies will run from September 3 to October 27 and will include a series of parallel activities to dive deep into the artist’s work but also engage the public in hands-on experiences. The exhibition includes Plant’s early work, created during her studies in London and immediately after, up to the influence and symbolism of Aphrodite in her work.

1 (4)Continuing Paphos’ new exhibitions is an interdisciplinary project which brings together artists bridging contemporary music and photography. The Achroom-Aosmon exhibition will open at Almyra Hotel on September 8 and features the works of eight photographers from Cyprus, Romania and Greece who explore how concepts and sounds inspire them to produce striking black and white images. The photographs were inspired by Aosmon for Solo Violin by the multi-awarded composer Christina Athinodorou, which was premiered, performed and recorded by violinist Alda Dizdari.

Back in Limassol, another exhibition will open but its inaugural day on September 13 marks more than just a new solo showcase. Reverie by Cypriot artist Nikolas Antoniou coincides with the opening of a new art gallery in Limassol, the Lumière Contemporary in the heart of the Dasoudi tourist area. Artist Nikolas will join Christina Drakos, who is the founder and curator of the gallery, to celebrate art and the opening of a new creative venue.

Nicosia too will have a new showcase next month as Thinker Maker Space of CYENS is hosting the exhibition Rendered Skin which features the work developed by resident artist Maria Leonidou. From September 16 to 30, Leonidou will present the pieces she created while a resident at CYENS that are finally ready to see the light of day.
