Anytime Cyprus campaign to improve island’s road culture

On Wednesday, October 19, INTERAMERICAN’s online insurer Anytime organised an important workshop at Nicosia’s A. G. Leventis Gallery on the importance of road safety and preventing traffic accidents. The event, entitled “The Numbers Are Changing”, drew great interest from members of the public, with attendees also including representatives of competent and institutional bodies, media and Anytime partners.

INTERAMERICAN Group CEO Yiannis Kantoros opened the event by touching on current trends, challenges and opportunities, and saying that the insurance industry’s response should be to incorporate Sustainable Development principles into their business DNA.

Thereafter, Anytime Cyprus Head Myrto Perati spoke on a key issue of concern to Cypriot society, presenting official Cyprus police data on 2021 road accidents, recording a total of 422 serious accidents, 446 injuries and 45 deaths on the asphalt.

Given such statistics, and via the “The Numbers are Changing” campaign, the aim of Anytime Cyprus, said its chief, is to create safer road culture and raise awareness, so as to drop these figures, while getting stakeholders, citizens and companies to unite in making road accidents a thing of the past.

Continuing, and reinforcing elements of CEO Kantoros’ speech, Perati further elaborated on Anytime Cyprus’ Corporate Responsibility Campaign – the first pillar of which is road safety – and introduced two campaign supporters, Andreas Aravis and Maria Marcou, who had survived serious road accidents in the past.

Aravis is a quadriplegic after a car accident sustained in 2014, which radically changed his life, having previously been a distinguished tennis athlete. In spite of his setback, today, he plays wheelchair table tennis, simultaneously sending a message of hope, yet also of caution, regarding how important road safety is for all of us.

Marcou, a secondary school IT teacher and athlete since her childhood, also sustained a car accident that very early on left her confined to a wheelchair. However, similar to Aravis, she was not discouraged and today she remains an active athlete as a member of the Paralympic Weightlifting Team, having already achieved many distinctions and serving as a role model for people in a similar situation.

The event concluded with questions from the media, followed by a reception where attendees had the chance to mingle and network.

Anytime, with respect to society and the aim of awakening the public to the importance of road culture, creates all the conditions for its actions, services and products to consistently stand by the insured, promoting the principles of good road behaviour.
