The harmonised index of consumer prices rose by 8.1 per cent year-on-year in the first nine months of 2022, according to a report released on Wednesday by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

According to the report, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (CPI) in September 2022 increased by 9 per cent compared to September 2021, while it fell by 1 per cent when compared to the previous month of 2022.

For the period between January and September 2022, there was an increase of 8.1 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

In terms of September 2021, the categories of housing, water supply, electricity and LPG, as well as that of transport, experienced the sharpest increases, rising by 28.7 per cent and13.3 per cent respectively.

Moreover, compared to August 2022, the biggest change was recorded in clothing and footwear, a category which rose by 8.3 per cent.

Finally, for the period between January and September 2022, compared to the corresponding period last year, the biggest changes were observed in the categories of housing, water supply, electricity and LPG, as well as that of transport, with 22.4 per cent and 15.7 per cent respectively.

 

The Construction Materials Price Index for the month of September 2022 reached 134.55 units (based on 2015=100), marking a marginal increase of 0.16 per cent compared to the previous month, according to a report released this week by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

Based on the report, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the index registered an increase of 16.24 per cent.

In terms of each main product category, increases were recorded in metal products at 18.73 per cent, minerals at 16.95 per cent, as well as mineral products at 15.51 per cent.

Finally, wood, insulating, chemical and plastic product prices rose by 14.62 per cent, while electromechanical items are 12.23 per cent more expensive.

 

The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ended Wednesday, October 19 with gains.

The general Cyprus Stock Market Index was at 74.64 points at 13:48 during the day, reflecting a rise of 0.86 per cent over the previous day of trading.

The FTSE / CySE 20 Index was at 44.79 points, which represents an increase of 0.9 per cent.

The total value of transactions came up to €27,819.

In terms of the sub-indexes, the main and investment firm index rose by 1.28 per cent and 1.44 per cent respectively, while the hotel and alternative indexes remained stable.

The biggest investment interest was attracted by the Bank of Cyprus ( +1.52 per cent), Demetra (+1.52 per cent), Hellenic Bank (+1.48 per cent), LCP Holdings and Investments (-8.81 per cent) and Louis PLC (+2.27 per cent).
