One of Brazil’s most impressive young operatic stars, soprano Marly Montoni, and pianist Angeles Iglesias travel to Cyprus this November for an exciting Brazilian song recital at The Shoe Factory. Presented by the Pharos Arts Foundation, the performance will take place on November 2 featuring music by some of Brazil’s most acclaimed composers.

Trained as a classical singer, Montoni made her debut at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo in 2017 as Leonora Beethoven’s Fidelio. She was subsequently engaged for a succession of leading roles, including the soprano part in the São Paulo premieres of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Requiem. This year, she spent the summer performing the title role in Verdi’s Aida at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, to great audience and critical acclaim. Her autumn agenda continues with this Cyprus recital joined by the award-winning pianist Ángeles Iglesias.

Having studied in some of Europe’s acclaimed music capitals, Seville and Vienna, Iglesias has appeared with a number of orchestras, under the baton of esteemed conductors and in prestigious venues all over the world. For their recital in Cyprus, supported by the Embassy of Brazil, the two musicians will present a programme of songs by Brazilian composers Heitor Villa-Lobos, Carlos Gomes, Francisco Mignone, Cesar Guerra-Peixe, Camargo Guarnieri, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Waldemar Henrique, Ronaldo Miranda, Claudio Santoro and Lorenzo Fernandez.
