Tour Larnaca from a different perspective

The old quarters of Larnaca contain treasures of the island’s past, the people that crossed the city’s path and the new stories that are being formed. A new series of walking tours aims to acquaint participants with the history of the old city centre.

Taking place on November 12, the tours are organised by the Larnaca Cultural Foundation and Citizens In Power with the aim to spread awareness about the contribution of foreigners to Larnaca’s history and urban development from the 18th century onwards. Two tours are scheduled, one in Greek and one in English.

“Many of the most prominent members of the local society have a migrant background,” say the organisers, “some of the most prestigious houses and the most admirable monuments of Larnaca were created by foreigners, who have integrated into the local community and have contributed, over time to the local development and the prosperity of the city. In the town of Larnaca, all residents are equal, there are no foreigners. The tours will contribute to the historical awareness of the city and serve as a way of showing that no one should be considered as a foreigner.”

Both tours will start at Europe Square, they will cross over Leoforos Athenon, followed by a stroll on Zinonos Kitieos Street and the area around Saint Lazarus Church. The walk in Greek will begin at 10.30am while the tour in English will set off at 3pm, lasting for one and a half to two hours each time.
