Police in Larnaca arrested three people on Thursday in connection with two cases of theft and illegal possession of property.

The first case, according to police, concerns an incident shortly before 5pm, when officers on motorised patrol spotted two people on foot and identified them as implicated in a theft under investigation.

When the police tried to stop the men for a check they attempted to run away. Police managed to stop the suspects, aged 40 and 42, after a chase and established their identities as Larnaca residents.

The two were taken in for interrogation, during which the suspects allegedly admitted their guilt, and arrest warrants were issued against them, whereby they were taken into custody.

The theft under investigation was reported to the police by the owner of a boat repair shop on Wednesday and concerned theft of boat parts and scrap metal.

In an earlier incident on Thursday, a police patrol in Oroklini spotted two people at noon putting an air conditioner into the boot of a vehicle.

At the sight of police, the two men also attempted to flee. Police chased the suspects and managed to stop one of the two.

The man violently resisted arrest, as a result of which he was arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Police established the man’s identity as a 38-year-old resident of Larnaca, who, when asked how the AC unit had come into his possession, was unable to give adequate explanation.
