It’s time to party

nostalgia 1

This time of the year, it is party time galore! Bars, restaurants and event venues put on their best of the best to offer nights of fun and boogie. This December, with the pandemic days and restrictions long behind us, there are several end-of-the-year parties. Not NYE parties just yet, but gatherings that celebrate the festive season with good music and the opportunity to put on your dancing shoes!

On Wednesday, the Afrobanana crew is taking over the New Division bar in Nicosia for a lively event that will not just feature groovy tunes from DJs but also a market. As the event kicks off at 4pm, a vinyl market will be set up in the garden while two stages will be added to host music. Four DJs will take over the decks throughout the evening, while Havana Club will spice up the cocktails of the night.

On Friday night, a Nostalgia Christmas Party will be set up in a large tent in Aglantjia with DJ Demi Consta playing retro classics and remixes from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. The party will begin at 8pm yet festivities will be happening before then. Musical acts, children’s entertainment and other activities will start in the late afternoon in a Christmas village spirit with free entry before 8pm. After 8pm a €10 ticket will apply which will include one drink. The party is part of the City Lights-Christmas Delight series of events at the Aglantjia Municipal Park which will host several events between December 22 and 29.

Another party will shake things up at New Division this Saturday. Psicotropico returns to the Nicosia bar with a special Christmas Edition of festive frequencies. From 9.30pm onwards a sound and dance party will add colour and rhythm to Nicosia, inviting party-goers to the dancefloor. DJs Tum Bao and Kuraka will join forces to bring tropical vibes, old-school salsa and cumbia, afrobeat, disco and funk.

In Larnaca, a special December performance will take place at Savino Live. The popular local and award-winning trio Monsieur Doumani will return to the coastal town on December 29 for a vibrant music show-turned-party. Antonis Antoniou, Demetris Yiasemides and Andys Skordis will take the stage along with their trombone, flute, guitar, percussion and tzouras to present their unique sound, which blends local lyrics and instruments with electronic and loop pedals to present an avant-folk repertoire.
