A car was targeted by an improvised explosive device in the early hours of the morning on Christmas day.

The car, belonging to a 52-year-old accountant in Limassol, was parked outside the owner’s residence in the Mesa Geitonia area.

The assailant placed a factory-made explosive device enhanced with low-power explosive material in the car’s windscreen and detonated it. The extent of the damage to the car from the explosion has not yet been determined.

The perpetrator is alleged to have triggered the improvised explosive device twice, as the first attempt failed to detonate.

The actions of the assailant were captured on CCTV installed at the residence.

It was observed that the perpetrator was riding a motorcycle and reportedly attempted to detonate the same car at 1.20am, without success, returning approximately two hours later.

The investigation into this targeted bombing is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the motive behind this incident.
