What’s on this weekend

The last weekend of 2023 looks set to be a full one with plenty of exciting events are happening around the island. Get ready for more live music, festive fun and New Year’s Eve parties.

Nicosia’s nightlife will host a few exciting music performances this weekend, notably the union of Michalis Tterlikkas and Fuzz Bus at the iconic Antonakis Music Hall on Friday. Their performance will feature well-known traditional Cypriot songs presented in a contemporary way using non-traditional instruments. Opening the show will be Nama Dama, who will perform material from her upcoming album with looping, keyboards, woodwinds and percussion.

Also happening on Friday night is a live by Monsieur Doumani at Savino Live in Larnaca. The trio will take the stage at 11pm to present an energetic performance infused with their Mediterranean and avant-folk signature sound. On the following evening, the Cashiers will take over for another lively show with a Christmas twist.

On Sunday, the biggest night of the year, Savino Live will host a rockin’ New Year’s Eve party with DJ music at 10pm and live music from the popular band Fuse from 1am onwards. Sarah’s Jazz Club will also host an NYE event welcoming 2024 with live jazz and blues. Entertaining guests on the evening will be Burve performing with pianist Christos Yerolatsitis, saxophonist Charis Ioannou, bassist Cahit Koutrafali and drummer Marios Spyrou. A surprise guest is also joining the band throughout the night. The venue will serve an all-you-can-eat buffet with world dishes and delicious wine, from 9.30pm onwards.

Before all of the evening shenanigans begin, Palaia Pineza bar in old Nicosia will host an afternoon NYE party from 1pm to 9pm. This festive event will have plenty of groovy music and cocktails flowing around the bar for one last hurrah in 2023. Happy New Year to all!
