OpenAI annualized revenue tops $1.6 billion

OpenAI’s annualized revenue recently topped $1.6 billion on strong growth from its ChatGPT product, up from $1.3 billion as of mid-October.

This was first reported by the Information last week, citing people with knowledge of the figure.

Relatedly, OpenAI is reportedly seeking fresh funding potentially surpassing a $100 billion valuation. The terms aren’t finalized and may change.

Discussions include funding for a new chip venture with G42. The chip venture’s relation to overall funding remains uncertain; talks suggest a raise of $8-10 billion from G42. A tender offer by Thrive Capital aims to facilitate shares sale at an $86 billion valuation.

Microsoft’s $10 billion commitment to OpenAI coincided with the ChatGPT release, spurring the company’s valuation surge.

Despite CEO Sam Altman’s ousting and subsequent reinstatement, OpenAI seeks new board arrangements. Both Microsoft and OpenAI declined comment to Reuters.
